WHO provides cholera kits to support outbreak response in Nepal

KATHMANDU: The World Health Organization (WHO) has handed over cholera kits to Nepal to help strengthen the country’s response to recent outbreaks. The handover took place today at the Ministry of Health and Population in the presence of Health Minister Pradeep Paudel.

The kits, which contain 87 types of essential medical supplies including diagnostic reagents, oral rehydration salts, intravenous fluids, and antibiotics, are aimed at supporting early diagnosis, control and treatment of cholera.

Speaking at the event, Minister Paudel said the government has already deployed specialist health teams to cholera-affected areas and is scaling up additional support as needed. “We have mobilized expert teams immediately in the outbreak zones. Continuous monitoring is underway, and the ministry is prepared to mobilize further resources when required,” he said.

According to the Ministry, the cholera kits will be distributed through the Department of Health Services to hospitals, health offices and local authorities in the affected districts without delay.

Health officials said the WHO’s support would significantly boost efforts to contain the spread of cholera and provide timely care to patients in outbreak-hit areas.
