KATHMANDU: Uttarakhand police have informed the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi that none of the rescued or deceased individuals listed in the recent devastating flood and landslide in Dharali, Uttarkashi district, are Nepali citizens.
According to the Uttarakhand police, a total of 372 people have been safely rescued so far, and two bodies recovered from the site do not include any Nepali nationals, the embassy confirmed.
However, according to information received by the embassy, five Nepali citizens remain missing after a separate landslide incident on August 6 in Bagoda, Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand.
The police have also reported that among four injured Nepalis, three have returned home after treatment, while one remains hospitalized locally.
In a statement released on Friday, the Nepali Embassy said it is continuously coordinating with the Uttarakhand government and India’s Ministry of External Affairs regarding the condition of Nepalis affected by the landslide, ongoing search and rescue efforts for missing Nepalis, medical treatment for the injured, and other necessary assistance.
Earlier, Nepal’s Foreign Minister Dr. Arju Rana Deuba had instructed the embassy to work urgently with Indian authorities to coordinate the search and rescue of Nepali citizens missing in Uttarakhand.
The landslide also affected citizens from Kushe Rural Municipality of Jajarkot. Kushe Chairman Harichandra Basnet reported that over 13 people from Ward No. 2 and several others from other wards have been out of contact since the disaster.
Chairman Basnet has urged the Nepal government and Ministry of Foreign Affairs to initiate diplomatic efforts to immediately search and rescue the missing Nepali citizens in the affected area.
The landslide on Tuesday afternoon was caused by a massive rockfall and flash flood that severely damaged the entire Dharali village.
