KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has urged support from Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ to help move parliamentary proceedings forward amid the current political deadlock.
Prachanda visited Deuba at his residence in Budhanilkantha on Friday, where Deuba urged him to assist in navigating the increasingly complex political situation.
Prachanda, in turn, said he would discuss the matter with other opposition leaders before making any decisions.
Speaking at a meeting of opposition parties in Baneshwor, Unified Socialist Senior Vice Chair Rajendra Pandey said, “The Nepali Congress party President has told us that the current situation is complex and asked for our help to move things forward.”
Opposition parties have been obstructing parliamentary proceedings, demanding the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak and a fair investigation into his alleged involvement in the visit visa case.
According to Pandey, Prachanda was delegated by the opposition to meet Deuba and seek clarity on the Nepali Congress party’s position on the issue.
“Since Ramesh Lekhak is from the Nepali Congress and the controversy involves his role as Home Minister, we felt it was necessary to directly consult with the party president,” said Pandey. “That’s why we sent Prachanda to Budhanilkantha—to understand where the Congress stands.”
