President highlights Nepal’s potential for sports tourism

KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has said that Nepal holds significant potential for the development of sports tourism.

He made the remarks during a meeting with officials from the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) at the Office of the President in Shital Niwas today.

“Nepal has successfully hosted distance races, including ultra-marathons from the lap of Sagarmatha to Nepalgunj in the western Terai. I believe that races tailored to our unique geography can unlock new opportunities in sports tourism,” the President said, as quoted by his personal secretariat.

He also expressed hope that international organizations like AIMS would contribute to promoting Nepal as a destination for sports tourism.

The President emphasized the broader value of sports in fostering global peace, unity, and harmony, and noted that running, in particular, promotes physical health, healthy competition, and contributes to building a prosperous society.

He added that Nepal is committed to developing its sports sector, with the government increasing investment each year, and the private sector also stepping up its support.

The President expressed gratitude to AIMS for choosing Nepal as the venue for its Board meeting.
