Speaker Ghimire holding talks with chief whips of three major parties to resolve House obstruction

KATHMANDU: Speaker Devraj Ghimire is holding discussions with the chief whips of three major parties in an effort to resolve the ongoing obstruction in Parliament led by the opposition.

According to the Speaker’s Secretariat, the meeting is scheduled for Sunday at 12 p.m. at Singha Durbar. Chief whips from the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, and Maoist Centre will participate in the discussions.

Opposition parties, including the main opposition Maoist Centre, have been obstructing parliamentary proceedings, demanding the formation of an investigation committee to probe the involvement of the Home Minister in the visit visa scandal.

The opposition has continued its protest since allowing the budget to be presented on Jestha 15. However, the ruling coalition has so far refused to agree to the demand for an investigation committee.
