Flood Division warns of rising river levels, advises caution

KATHMANDU: The Flood Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has issued a warning about possible flooding today (Sunday).

According to the Division’s bulletin, there is a risk of flooding in rivers and streams across eight districts.

The notice states: “As water levels are expected to rise in some small rivers flowing through Ilam, Panchthar, Khotang, Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Dhankuta, Udayapur, and surrounding areas today, people living in riverbank areas are advised to remain cautious.”

The Division has also provided a forecast for the next three days (until Tuesday), warning of potential fluctuations in river levels.

According to the bulletin, the water levels in major rivers such as the Koshi, Narayani, Karnali, Mahakali and their tributaries, as well as the West Rapti and Babai rivers, are expected to stay below the alert level.

However, some fluctuations are likely, and general caution is advised for those engaging in riverside activities.

The Division further warned: “As the flow in the Kankai, Kamala, and Bagmati rivers is likely to increase to some extent, continued vigilance is necessary in riverside areas.”
