13-year-old girl dies after falling Into electric trap in Siraha, one arrested

SIRAHA: A 13-year-old girl, Gulsana Khatun of Golbazar Municipality-9, Gobindapur, has died after falling into an electric trap allegedly set to protect a maize field from wild animals.

Police have arrested Bir Bahadur Sarki, 24, in connection with the incident and filed a murder charge.

According to DSP Birendra Kumar Paswan, Sarki was remanded in custody for seven days by the District Court and is under investigation at the Area Police Office in Mirchaiya.

Gulsana, daughter of Bechan Ali, went missing on March 13 after leaving home to cut grass. Her decomposed body was discovered 13 days later, on March 25, wrapped in a sack and buried on the banks of the Ghurmi River.

Her mother, Jehda Khatun, had filed a missing person complaint the day after her disappearance. A joint team from the Central Investigation Bureau, Madhes Province Police Office, and Mirchaiya police arrested Sarki on April 6.

During the investigation, police recovered a sickle the girl had taken with her and confirmed that she had fallen into an electric trap set by Sarki around 9:00 am on March 13. Hearing her scream, Sarki allegedly buried her body to conceal the incident.

Police are continuing the investigation to determine further details and possible intent.
