KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has expressed dissatisfaction over the government’s ongoing dispute with Kulman Ghising, the Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).
Speaking at the first regional conference organized by the Nepali Congress Sindhuli Constituency-1 committee in Belghari on Saturday, Thapa questioned the government’s stance on Ghising.
“The NEA operates under the Ministry of Energy. I don’t understand whether this is bad intent or just poor handling. Ghising is set to retire in three to four months, after which a suitable replacement can be appointed to lead the institution,” Thapa said. “It looks as if the entire government is fixated on one individual. This kind of dispute is unnecessary and inappropriate.”
He also emphasized that ministers should not engage in unnecessary actions and urged Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to intervene when needed.
“No minister should be involved in irrelevant matters. If they do, it is the prime minister’s responsibility to stop them,”
Thapa added. “The prime minister is the head of the cabinet. He takes credit for good decisions and must also bear responsibility for bad ones.”
Furthermore, Thapa urged ministers representing the party in government to focus on delivering positive results. “Either do good work, or at the very least, avoid making mistakes,” he said. “Even if 50 good things are done, one mistake can overshadow all achievements.”
