Social media bill to curb anarchy: Leader Dhakal

KATHMANDU: Standing committee member of the CPN UML, Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal, said the social media bill was aimed at curbing anarchy rather than controlling social media.

Also the chief of sister organization of UML, leader Dhakal, however, said he would cooperate for the correction of the bill to eliminate faulty provisions.

He said it during the second general convention of the valley province chapter of the Press Chautari Nepal here today.

“We can correct the mistakes when we have a strong government, so that it would be enforced effectively,” he argued.

According to him, the government led byUML Chairman KP Sharma Oli will be succeeded by the government led by NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba from Asar 2083.

Unless the agreement between the two leaders Deuba and Oli continues intact, the views from other leaders count nothing on government running, he argued.

Dhakal sought cooperation from media to hold the election of free student union successfully on March 18.

On the occasion, UML publicity and printing department chief Rajendra Gautam said free media is essential for a functional democracy. The social media bill is for democracy and media rights, he underlined.
