KMC’s job training initiative sees 50% employment rate

KATHMANDU: Fifty percent of individuals who received automobile sector training under Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s skills training program have secured employment or started their own businesses.

According to the metropolis, out of 100 individuals who completed automobile training, half have found jobs or become self-employed. A follow-up conducted with the trainees after the Skill Fair 2024 revealed that many have successfully entered the workforce.

Head of the Social Development Department, Niraula, stated that some trainees have used their newly acquired skills to establish their own businesses. To further support employment, the metropolis organized a personality development workshop for those transitioning to on-the-job training. This included sessions on CV writing, interview skills, professional growth, and workplace ethics.

The On-the-Job Training initiative is part of the Gaurav Yojana: Employment and Income Growth, Kathmandu’s Prosperity program. The Skill Fair 2081, held in Tundikhel on Baishakh 19, coincided with World Workers’ Day 2081 and aimed to promote self-employment, employment, and job training.

A total of 68,866 people applied for training, which covered 30 professions across 10 categories. Over 2,715 individuals completed either a 15-day or 30-day training course. To help skilled workers find jobs, the metropolis also organized an Employment Fair, where more than 70 companies and organizations interacted with potential employees over two days.
