Gagan Thapa calls for stable government for three years

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa has emphasized the need to allow the current government to function smoothly for the next three years.

Speaking at the first convention of the Arghakhanchi-Kathmandu Contact Committee in Kathmandu on Saturday, Thapa stated that Nepali Congress and CPN-UML must take full responsibility for the government during this period.

He noted that past coalition governments often failed to take ownership of their decisions, creating public confusion. Thapa stressed that the practice of supporting government policies while in power but disowning them after leaving must end.

He further highlighted the need to break the cycle of frequent coalition governments and lack of accountability.

According to him, the focus should be on delivering tangible results in the next three years, which could serve as the basis for the 2084 B.S. elections.

Addressing concerns about federalism, Thapa argued that current issues lie more at the federal level than in the provinces. He also cautioned against government bodies encroaching on each other’s jurisdiction.
