Fire breaks out at Ripum Monastery in Gorkha



GORKHA: A fire broke out at Ripum Monastery in Gorkha. A three-storey residential building inside the Monastery premises was gutted in the fire this afternoon.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Raj Kumar Shrestha said that about 50 rooms of the building, along with all the clothes, utensils and furniture in it, were gutted in the fire. A total of 60 monks used to live in the house, while the cause of the fire is being investigated, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Raj Kumar Shrestha.

Teams from Samagaun Police Post and Larke Police Post Namrung have been deployed to the spot and the full details of the damage are yet to arrive.

The Ripum Monastery is believed to be more than 1,000 years old while the residential building that caught fire is about 40 years old.
