DP Aryal proposes holding party’s first General Convention immediately after elections

CHITWAN: Acting chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), DP Aryal, has proposed that the party hold its first General Convention immediately after the upcoming elections.

Presenting his political report at the party’s extended Central Committee meeting that began in Sauraha, Chitwan, on Friday, Aryal said, “I expect this extended meeting to provide the Central Committee with concrete and practical suggestions on organizing the General Convention right after the elections, possibly in the month of Falgun.”

The report emphasized that the directive to hold the General Convention would help the RSP mature further and establish itself as a more responsible and credible force in national politics. “The introduction of refined policies, ideologies, and an elected leadership will make the party dynamic and adaptable to the demands of time,” the report stated, adding that “a General Convention immediately after the elections is necessary to make the party more organized, effective, and strong.”

Earlier, the party’s national gathering held in Kathmandu on September 17 and 1, 2024, had decided to hold the first General Convention from May 8 to 10. However, after party chair Rabi Lamichhane was sent to jail over the cooperative fraud case, the Central Committee decided to hold the Convention from February 19 to 21 instead.

The schedule was later changed again after the government announced the election date for March 5, 2026. As a result, the RSP postponed its General Convention to be held after the elections.
