KATHMANDU: A group of youths from the Gen-Z Movement Alliance submitted a letter to the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Tuesday morning, demanding the resignation of all sitting commissioners, including Chief Commissioner Prem Kumar Rai.
The group reached the CIAA office in Tangal and officially registered the letter. The letter alleges that the appointments of Chief Commissioner Rai and other commissioners were made arbitrarily, bypassing due parliamentary procedures.
“Your appointment, along with others, was made through an ordinance issued by the former government led by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, without a parliamentary hearing. This raises serious questions about your impartiality,” the letter states.
It also accuses the commissioners of political bias and references alleged involvement in corruption cases, including the controversial Widebody aircraft procurement deal.
“There is widespread criticism that your actions are politically motivated, and your name has surfaced in several corruption scandals. Even the Special Court has raised questions about the integrity and functioning of the CIAA under your leadership,” the letter continues.
The group argues that such concerns undermine the credibility and effectiveness of the CIAA in fighting corruption and delivering justice.
“Respecting the sacrifice of 75 Nepali citizens who gave their lives in the struggle against misgovernance, corruption, and impunity, we urge you and all current commissioners to resign on moral grounds,” the letter concludes.
