Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has expressed support for the Gen-Z movement, urging the government to heed the voices of the youth. In a Facebook post, he said, “The talented Gen-Z youth, who want to contribute while staying in the country, are taking to the streets against the government’s social media shutdown. The government’s approach differs from their thinking.”

Chief Secretary directs officials to ensure accessible supplies of consumer goods in festive season

Chief Secretary Eak Narayan Aryal has asked the government officials to pay attention to the market monitoring and price control of the essential goods during the upcoming festive season. At a meeting of the central monitoring and evaluation committee held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers today, the Chief Secretary directed the Salt Trading Company Limited and Food Management and Trading Company Limited to ensure accessibility of the consumer goods at fair prices.

UML changes color of sickle and hammer on party flag

The CPN-UML has changed the color of the sickle and hammer on its party flag through its second statute convention. For the first time in the party’s 75-year history, the emblem, traditionally white, in line with global communist parties, will now appear in golden color against a red background. The convention also unanimously endorsed Chair KP Sharma Oli’s political document, Vice Chair Bishnu Paudel’s statute amendment proposal, and General Secretary Shankar Pokharel’s organizational report.

UML statute convention unanimously passes reports of Oli, Pokharel, and Paudel

The second national statute convention of the CPN-UML has unanimously endorsed three major reports presented by party leaders, including Chair KP Sharma Oli’s political document. The convention, which began Saturday under the slogan “Building a decisive national force, our commitment; Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali our destination”, held day-long discussions in 10 groups before passing the reports on Sunday afternoon.

UML report says there is no alternative to Chair Oli’s leadership

A report presented at the ongoing second statute convention of the CPN-UML has concluded that there is no alternative to KP Sharma Oli in the party’s leadership. According to Rajendra Gautam, chief of the party’s publicity and publication department and a standing committee member, leaders participating in group discussions stated that Oli remains the only choice for UML’s future leadership.

Ministry urges against VPN use, confirms listing of Hamro Patro and Global Diary

The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology has confirmed that two platforms, Hamro Patro and Global Diary, have been officially listed. In a press statement on Sunday, ministry spokesperson Gajendra Kumar Thakur said that the platforms were listed and that two other social media companies, X and WeChat, had requested information for the listing process, which the ministry has already provided.

Loan-shark victims stage sit-in with four-point demand

The Struggle Committee against Meter Interest (loan-sharking) staged a sit-in at Maitighar on Sunday, putting forward a four-point demand. The protesters, who are focusing their movement in Kathmandu, called for unity among victims, cancellation of fraudulent loan documents, legal action against loan sharks, and the return of land seized from borrowers.

YouTubers protest nationwide against social media shutdown

The umbrella body of YouTubers, the Online TV Journalists Association, has launched protests against the government’s decision to shut down social media platforms. Accusing the government of “kicking them in the stomach,” online TV journalists staged a demonstration at Maitighar Mandala on Sunday afternoon. Nepal is estimated to have more than 10,000 online TV channels, with over 1,000 affiliated with the association.

Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah has expressed support for the upcoming ‘Gen-Z protest’ scheduled for Monday. The new generation, identifying as ‘Gen-Z,’ is set to launch demonstrations against political corruption and mismanagement, beginning at the Parliament building in New Baneshwor and Maitighar Mandala.

PM Oli on social media regulation: Disrespect to the nation cannot be tolerated

Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli said that while many issues can be tolerated, any attempt to undermine the nation will not be accepted. Addressing delegates on the final day of the UML Statute Convention in Godavari, Lalitpur, on Sunday, Oli stressed that the party has always stood against misconduct and any attitude of belittling the country.

The Nepali Congress (NC) has announced plans to hold discussions with the government regarding its recent decision to deactivate multiple social media platforms. The decision was made during a meeting of the party’s Work Execution Committee held on Sunday at the Budhanilkantha residence of party president Sher Bahadur Deuba.

Balen’s sarcasm to Deuba: Which VPN are you using to run Facebook?

Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen) took a jab at Nepali Congress (NC) President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Saturday, sarcastically asking, “Which VPN are you using to run Facebook?” The comment came after Deuba posted photos from a public event — despite the government’s recent ban on 26 social media platforms, including Facebook. Earlier in the day, Deuba had acknowledged at Biratnagar Airport that the platforms had been blocked for operating without registration in Nepal. Yet, by evening, he shared five photos from an event in Sunsari on the very platform that had supposedly been restricted — raising questions and drawing widespread criticism online.

Gen-Z to protest in Kathmandu over social media ban

The Gen-Z generation is set to protest in Kathmandu on Monday against the government’s decision to shut down 26 social media platforms — including Facebook — for not being registered in Nepal. Gen-Z refers to those born between 1997 and 2012. Youth from this generation will gather at Maitighar Mandala at 11 a.m. on Monday to express their concerns. The protest has gained momentum on TikTok, where related videos and hashtags are currently trending. Organizers have urged participants to wear school uniforms and bring their identity cards to the event.

Gold price sets new record in Nepal

The price of gold reached an all-time high on Sunday (September 7), hitting Rs 212,000 per tola. According to the Federation of Nepal Gold, Silver, Gems and Jewellery Associations, the price of gold rose by Rs 1,600 compared to Friday, when it was traded at Rs 210,400 per tola.
