Gen-Z to protest in Kathmandu over social media ban



KATHMANDU: The Gen-Z generation is set to protest in Kathmandu on Monday against the government’s decision to shut down 26 social media platforms — including Facebook — for not being registered in Nepal.

Gen-Z refers to those born between 1997 and 2012. Youth from this generation will gather at Maitighar Mandala at 11 a.m. on Monday to express their concerns.

The protest has gained momentum on TikTok, where related videos and hashtags are currently trending. Organizers have urged participants to wear school uniforms and bring their identity cards to the event.

Besides opposing the social media ban, demonstrators are also demanding an end to corruption, improved governance, and increased employment opportunities across the country.
