Israel levels second high-rise as Gaza City offensive escalates

TEL AVIV: The Israeli military has demolished another high-rise building in Gaza City, marking the second such strike in consecutive days. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz shared footage of the collapse on social media platform X, stating, “We’re continuing.”

According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the targeted Sussi Tower was being used by Hamas, a claim the group denies. There has been no immediate confirmation of casualties from the strike. Prior to the attack, Israel distributed leaflets urging residents to evacuate to what it designates as a “humanitarian zone” in southern Gaza, BBC reported.

IDF spokesperson Avichay Adraee, in an Arabic-language social media message, called on civilians to move to al-Mawasi—located between Khan Younis and the coast—citing the availability of food, water, and medical aid.

Despite these assurances, the United Nations has warned that al-Mawasi is dangerously overcrowded, with inadequate shelter and overwhelmed hospitals.

Earlier this week, five children were reportedly killed while waiting for water in the area, allegedly struck by an Israeli drone. The IDF says it is investigating the incident.
