Lamjung’s Gaikhure waterfall emerging as a popular tourist attraction

LAMJUNG: A stunning waterfall cascades from the heart of a mountain, surrounded by lush greenery and collecting in a serene pond below.

This spectacular sight—Gaikhure Waterfall—has become a magnet for visitors, drawing crowds eager to capture its beauty. Falling from a height of over 70 meters, the waterfall’s base is often filled with tourists snapping selfies and swimming in the cool, clear water.

Located in Dalal, Besisahar Municipality-1, near the Dumre-Besisahar road and close to the Marsyangdi River, the waterfall has recently emerged as a prominent tourist destination. Even passersby on the road can stop briefly to enjoy the view.

More than 300 people now visit the site daily. According to local resident Sudip Pant, the number of visitors doubles on Fridays, Saturdays, and public holidays.

Asmita Thapa of Besisahar Municipality-7 shared, “Since the waterfall is located right next to the road, almost everyone who passes by stops to enjoy it. Taking selfies while feeling the cool mist makes you feel refreshed.” Likewise, another visitor, Shankar Shrestha, said he enjoys both taking photos and swimming with friends at the site.

Despite its growing popularity, the area remains unmanaged. Tourist Ishwar Sedhain pointed out that floods and landslides are gradually altering the waterfall’s natural beauty and emphasized the need for better infrastructure. “This place has great potential not only for swimming but also for adventure sports like canyoning,” he said.

Mayor Guman Singh Aryal stated that Besisahar Municipality is taking steps to manage and preserve the waterfall. “We’ve allocated Rs. 900,000 to develop the area around the waterfall,” he confirmed.

Planned improvements include channeling water from the Marsyangdi River to maintain a consistent flow, constructing a permanent pond below the waterfall, and building a dedicated parking area. The municipality also plans to introduce canyoning and rafting activities to attract more tourists. As Lamjung’s Besisahar is the gateway to the Annapurna Circuit Trek, local officials hope to draw international visitors as well.
