Nine individuals apply to be RSP candidates in Rupandehi-3 by-election



RUPANDEHI: Nine individuals have submitted applications to become candidates from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) for the upcoming by-election in Rupandehi-3.

The RSP made the list of applicants public on Thursday through a live broadcast on its official Facebook page. The applicants are Sulav Kharel, Parthivendra Upadhyay, Lekhjung Thapa, Gyanu Poudel, Jit Bahadur Gupta, Kusum Maharjan, Rachana Chhetri, Poonam Kumari Agrawal, and Madhu Prasad Aryal. Among them, only Kusum Maharjan is from outside Rupandehi; the rest are local residents.

According to Bipin Acharya, RSP Joint General Secretary and Election Commander for Rupandehi-3, objections to the candidacies can be filed from 10 a.m. tomorrow until 5 p.m. the following day.

Complaints must be submitted to the RSP Central Election Commission. The initial list of approved candidates will be published on August 11.

The party has also announced it will conduct a preliminary (primary) election to select one candidate from among the applicants, which will carry a 50 percent weight in the final decision. The primary election will take place from 7 a.m. on August 28 from 12 to 7 p.m. on August 29.

Eligible voters in the primary include RSP general members and central members from Rupandehi-3. The vote weightage will be as follows: RSP members in Rupandehi-3 will carry 80 percent, members of the local RSP committee will carry 10 percent, and central members will carry the remaining 10 percent.

The final candidate will be selected based on the cumulative score from the primary election and the party’s decision-making process.
