Modern ‘blood bank’ to be established in Lahan

SIRAHA: A state-of-the-art blood bank, named Prameshwor-Atmaram Murarka Blood Bank, is set to be established in Lahan Municipality, addressing the critical shortage of blood faced by patients in emergencies.

The project was initiated on Monday through a tripartite collaboration between Lahan Municipality, the Lions Club, and local donor families.

A formal agreement has been signed between Lahan Municipality and the Lions Club for the establishment of the facility. Three plots of land adjacent to the under-construction municipal hospital in Lahan-10 have been allocated for the project.

The Murarka family, prominent industrialists and social workers in Lahan, will contribute Rs 4 million toward the construction of the building, which will be named in memory of the late Prameshwor Murarka and Atmaram Murarka.

Under the agreement, the Lions Club will provide advanced technical equipment valued at over Rs 15 million to ensure the blood bank meets modern standards.

Mayor Mahesh Prasad Chaudhary hailed the project as a major milestone in regional healthcare. “Emergency treatment has long been hampered by the absence of a reliable blood bank within a hundred kilometers of Lahan,” he said.

“Our priority is the health of our citizens, and this blood bank will eliminate the need to search far and wide for blood in emergencies.”

On behalf of the donor family, Murari Lal Murarka expressed pride in contributing to the healthcare sector in the name of his father and uncle. He highlighted that the late Prameshwor Murarka and Atmaram Murarka were instrumental in establishing institutions such as Lahan Provincial Hospital, JS Murarka Multiple Campus, Science Laboratory, and Madbari Sewa Sadan.

Once operational, the blood bank will serve patients from Lahan as well as neighboring districts including Saptari, Dhanusha, and Udayapur, ensuring timely access to critical blood supplies.
