Floods and landslides bring major travel disruptions



KATHMANDU: Seven highways across the country have been completely blocked today due to floods and landslides triggered by continuous rainfall, according to the Police Headquarters.

Vehicular movement has come to a complete halt on these routes. Additionally, nine other roads are operating under a one-way traffic system.

The highways currently blocked include the Koshi Highway at Bhotkhola Rural Municipality-4 in Sankhuwasabha; the Nepal-China border bridge and Pasang Lhamu Road at Gosainkunda Rural Municipality in Rasuwa; the Araniko Highway at Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality in Sindhupalchowk; the East-West Highway at Binayi Triveni Rural Municipality-2 in Nawalparasi (East); and the Mid-Hill Highway at Madhya Nepal Municipality-9 in Lamjung.

Meanwhile, one-way traffic is in effect on several roads across the country. These include the Kathmandu-Nuwakot road; the Mid-Hill Highway at Laligurans Municipality-7 in Tehrathum; the Galchhi-Trishuli-Mailung-Syafru road in Uttargaya, Rasuwa; and the Kaligandaki Corridor at Baglung Municipality-10 and Kathekhola-6 in Baglung.

Likewise, other highways include the Kaligandaki Corridor at Gaindakot-3 in Nawalparasi (East); the Beni-Jomsom road at Thasang Rural Municipality-4 in Mustang; the Prithvi Highway at Chunpahara in Bandipur-4, Tanahun; the Pokhara-Baglung road at Annapurna Rural Municipality-6 in Kaski; the Ridi-Tamghas road at Ruru-3 in Gulmi; the Rapti Highway at Lamahi Municipality-9 in Dang; and the Shahid Highway at Parivartan Rural Municipality in Rolpa.

Authorities have urged travelers to remain alert and verify road conditions before beginning their journeys.
