Kankai Municipality to provide cash assistance for funeral rites

JHAPA: Kankai Municipality, Jhapa has launched the ‘Sarahe Program’ to support residents with funeral expenses. The initiative has been implemented from the current fiscal year.

Mayor Rajendra Kumar Pokharel said the program was introduced in recognition of the emotional and financial burden that funeral rites place on families.

“The municipality is the guardian of its residents,” he said. “We have initiated this program to ease the traditional Sarhe practice and support families in performing funeral rituals during times of loss.”

Deputy Mayor Asha Sharma Shiwakoti expressed hope that personally reaching out to bereaved families with condolences and support would help ease their grief, even if only slightly.

She informed that under the program, a cash assistance of Rs. 5,000 along with a condolence letter will be provided to the family of the deceased.

A municipal executive meeting approved the ‘Death Ritual Management Procedure-2082’ to formally guide the implementation of this program.
