RSP and RPP continue protest over visa scandal

KATHMANDU: The protest led by the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) demanding a parliamentary investigation into the ‘visit visa scandal’ continued on Monday, with both parties maintaining pressure on the government.

The protest, which began on May 26, intensified following allegations implicating Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak in the controversial visa issuance process.

Protesters are calling for the formation of a high-level probe committee to investigate the matter.

In Monday’s parliamentary session, RPP boycotted the meeting entirely, expressing dissatisfaction over the government’s failure to address the demand for an investigation.

Meanwhile, RSP MPs encircled the Speaker’s rostrum but refrained from chanting slogans, signaling a more symbolic form of resistance during the session.

Although no formal slogans were raised inside the House on Monday, both parties remain firm on their demand for an impartial probe, asserting that the issue touches on accountability and abuse of power in high offices.

The controversy centers on allegations that visit visas to foreign countries—primarily Gulf and Southeast Asian nations—were issued through questionable channels, allegedly involving political protection.

As pressure mounts, opposition parties have indicated that their protest will continue until a parliamentary committee is formed to investigate the scandal in detail.
