KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has called on party leaders and cadres to openly question the party’s top leadership about the recent extension of the Central Working Committee’s term.
Speaking at the first convention of the Sindhuli–Kathmandu Contact Committee in Lokanthali, Bhaktapur on Saturday, Koirala challenged party members to ask why the leadership, including the president and other office bearers, have failed to hold the general convention on time.
“You meet the party president and other office bearers regularly — so ask them why the general convention has not been held,” he said. “Why can’t you ask them the reason behind the extension? You must.”
Koirala said the party’s general convention must be held within four years, as mandated. “We must all say clearly that the general convention must be held on time, and that means within four years,” he asserted.
He warned that if the party continues to operate in its current manner, it will weaken not only the organization but also the future of its leaders and cadres.
“If the Nepali Congress is run like this indefinitely, its future — and the future of all its leaders and cadres — will be bleak,” Koirala said. “You will be the ones to suffer.”
