Disaster response drill conducted in Rautahat to prepare for monsoon emergencies

RAUTAHAT: A joint disaster response exercise focusing on weather-related emergencies was held in Rautahat district.

Organized by the District Disaster Management Committee, the exercise took place at Barahawa Lake in Gaur Municipality-4 on Friday, with the active participation of all three security agencies.

Chief District Officer Binod Kumar Khadka said the drill aimed to strengthen preparedness and precautionary measures for managing weather-induced disasters in the Terai-Madhesh region, which is considered highly vulnerable.

“Rautahat is a high-risk district, so such exercises are crucial for effective disaster response,” he noted.

The Nepal Army’s Narayan Dal Battalion, the District Police Office, the Armed Police Force’s No. 11 Battalion Headquarters, and other relevant disaster management agencies took part in the event.

The exercise simulated monsoon disaster scenarios, including fire control measures, search and rescue operations using specialized equipment, and water-based rescues using motorboats and bridges.

Rautahat Police Chief Netramani Giri said the exercise was intended to reduce risks and enhance preparedness for the upcoming rainy season.

Santosh Kumar Basnet, Commander of the Armed Police Force’s No. 11 Battalion Headquarters, emphasized that such drills are essential for improving rescue and relief operations. Over 250 local residents observed the exercise.
