Five returnees from India test positive for COVID-19

KATHMANDU: Five women who recently returned from India through the Kanchanpur-Gauriphanta border crossing have tested positive for COVID-19, according to the Sudurpaschim Province Health Emergency Operations Center.

Of the five, three are from Kailali and two from Achham.

Information Officer Hemraj Joshi said antigen tests were conducted on 30 individuals showing symptoms upon arrival.

All those who tested positive have been advised to remain in home quarantine. Just two days ago, three of 36 returnees through the same checkpoint had also tested positive.

With these new cases, a total of eight returnees have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past three days. The infected individuals are reported to be experiencing fever and cough. Their samples have been sent to a laboratory in Kathmandu for further testing.

A health desk has been set up at the Gauriphanta border for the past three days to conduct COVID-19 screenings.

“We were using leftover test kits, and today we received 200 more,” Joshi said. “We plan to establish a similar health desk at the Gaddachauki border within the next two to three days.”
