Dharan Mayor Sampang finally meets PM Oli

KATHMANDU: Dharan Sub-metropolitan City Mayor Harka Sampang met with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar, raising long-standing concerns about the drinking water crisis in Dharan.

During the meeting, Mayor Sampang emphasized the urgency of resolving Dharan’s chronic water shortage.

In response, Prime Minister Oli assured him that the federal government has already initiated steps to address the issue.

“The people of Dharan must have access to safe drinking water. From today, the process to resolve this problem has officially begun,” Prime Minister Oli said.

“The federal government will provide the necessary support, including budget facilitation. Please convey this message to the residents of Dharan.”

He also informed Mayor Sampang that a detailed project report (DPR) for the drinking water project has already been prepared.

In addition to the water issue, Prime Minister Oli stressed the importance of constructing a modern landfill site in Dharan to improve waste management using advanced technology.

This meeting follows Mayor Sampang’s earlier attempt to enter Singha Durbar carrying an empty water jug—a symbolic gesture highlighting Dharan’s water crisis—during which he met only the Minister for Water Supply.
