RSP Chair Rabi Lamichhane sent to jail



KATHMANDU: Rabi Lamichhane, President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and former Managing Director of Gorkha Media Network, has been remanded to the District Prison in Rupandehi.

Prior to this, he had been in custody at the District Police Office in Rupandehi for two days.

Lamichhane was presented before the District Court, Rupandehi, this morning and was sent to prison after completing the necessary legal proceedings.

According to Suresh Bhandari, the administrator of the District Prison, Lamichhane underwent a medical check-up for about an hour before being placed in Block Number 4 of the prison. He is currently housed in a separate section within the facility.

Lamichhane was taken into custody from Kathmandu on Friday night and brought to Bhairahawa on Saturday morning. His confinement was ordered following the High Court’s decision to overturn the District Court, Rupandehi’s verdict, which had granted him bail of Rs 10 million.

He faces charges of misappropriating cooperative funds.
