Madhesh CM orders closure of 10 private hospitals in Rautahat over violations

RAUTAHAT: Madhesh Province Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh has ordered the immediate closure of 10 private hospitals in Garuda and Shivnagar, citing their failure to meet regulatory standards.

During an inspection late Thursday evening, Singh found that these hospitals were operating illegally, charging exorbitant fees, and violating health regulations.

As a result, he directed authorities to shut them down until they comply with the required standards. The hospitals include Ananda Hospital Acupuncture Center Pvt. Ltd. in Shivnagar, Garuda Municipality-5, Anamika Hospital, Roma Hospital, Saraswati Hospital, Sun City Hospital, Garuda Hospital Pvt. Ltd., Netra Jyoti Hospital, Hope Hospital, and others in Garuda-4.

CM Singh warned that hospital operators found running facilities without meeting regulations would face legal action and possible arrest. Reports indicate that several hospital operators fled upon learning of the inspection.

Authorities discovered that Ananda Hospital had obtained a permit for only 25 beds but was illegally operating with over 60 beds across three buildings. The hospital’s operator, alleged doctor Umesh Prasad Sah, also fled the scene. Garuda Municipality is under scrutiny for issuing an illegal permit, as it can only authorize hospitals with up to 15 beds.

The district has witnessed a rise in substandard private hospitals, many lacking even basic infrastructure such as ambulance parking. CM Singh previously ordered the closure of 10 hospitals in Chandranigahapur and vowed stricter action against illegal medical facilities along the Gaur-Chandranigahapur road section.
