National Pride Projects record 25.70% expenditure in six months

KATHMANDU: The progress of national pride projects, which were envisioned and initiated by the government to enhance public service delivery and promote economic growth, has been less than satisfactory due to several challenges.

One key issue is the low capital expenditure on these projects, despite the government’s efforts to provide all necessary resources and support.

Out of the total Rs 66 billion allocated for 19 of the 27 national pride projects in the current fiscal year (2024/25), only Rs 17 billion has been spent as of the end of the first six months, according to the Ministry of Finance.

This represents just 25.70% of the total budget, the Ministry reported.

Since their inception in the 2012/2013 fiscal year, the number of national pride projects has increased from 17 to 27, reflecting the country’s growing needs and the relevance of these projects.

Of the 27 projects, some have already been completed, while others have made significant progress. Currently, 19 projects are in the process of implementation.

In the previous fiscal year, over Rs 60 billion was allocated for these 19 projects.

Their financial progress reached 89.82%, while their physical progress stood at 57.50%, according to the Ministry.
