KATHMANDU: The main opposition, CPN (Maoist Centre), has concluded its central committee meeting by endorsing a 16-point resolution addressing various political, organizational, and contemporary issues.

The meeting, which commenced on Sunday, saw lively discussions among over 100 members before the resolutions were unanimously passed.

Party Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ tabled proposals that highlighted concerns over government interference in public institutions such as the Nepal Electricity Authority, Tribhuvan University, and the civil service.

The party condemned political meddling and called for an end to arbitrary actions that undermine institutional integrity. It also criticized the government’s apathy towards governance, urging effective measures to curb corruption and improve service delivery.

Among the resolutions, the party demanded urgent steps to address inflation, ensure fair wages for workers in both formal and informal sectors, and set minimum support prices for agricultural produce.

It underscored the need to resolve border disputes through enhanced diplomatic engagement and stressed the importance of prioritizing peace process-related commitments, including the formation of transitional justice commissions.

The resolutions also highlighted implementing long-term projects such as the triangular economic corridor and establishing a Dalit Special Authority.

The party called for better support for returning migrant workers and reconstruction efforts in disaster-hit areas. Climate change mitigation, alongside relief for vulnerable communities, was another priority outlined in the resolution.

Raising concerns over the recent cooperative fraud cases, the party criticized discrimination in investigations and demanded fair and impartial probes.

It also highlighted the government’s failure to address the ongoing meter interest loan crisis and reaffirmed its commitment to securing justice for victims.

On the international front, the Maoist Centre expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people, condemning the ongoing violence in Gaza and urging the government to step up diplomatic efforts for the safety of Nepali nationals in conflict zones.

The party also called for proactive diplomatic measures to resolve Nepal’s border issues and ensure justice in cases of gender-based violence.

The resolutions further supported the long-standing demands of Nepali veterans in the British Army for equal pay and pensions.

The party urged the government to engage diplomatically with the UK to address these grievances.

The meeting concluded with a call for immediate action to address these pressing national and international issues, urging the government to act responsibly and prioritize the needs of the people.
