Six-month campaign to precede Maoist Center’s General Convention

KATHMANDU: The main opposition party, CPN (Maoist Center), has announced a six-month campaign to prepare for its upcoming general convention.

The decision was made during the party’s three-day Central Committee meeting, which concluded recently.

Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda) stated during the meeting’s closing session that the party will conduct the campaign over the next six months, followed by six months of preparation leading up to the general convention.

The current Central Committee will be converted into a convention organizing committee to oversee the preparations.

Prachanda explained that the campaign would help gather extensive feedback from the public, making it an integral part of the convention’s groundwork.

The Maoist Center has decided to dedicate Magh (mid January to mid February)to campaign preparation, culminating in the observance of “People’s War Day” on Falgin 1.

Following this, the “Maoists with the People on Hulaki and East-West Highways” campaign will be launched.

Additionally, the party plans to organize another campaign in April, focusing on Himalayan and mid-hill regions, titled “Maoists with the People on the Mid-Hill Highway,” according to Prachanda’s secretariat.

The meeting resolved to assign responsibilities to all leaders, with a week-long deadline for the central office to finalize task divisions.

Circulars detailing the responsibilities will be distributed by the first week of January.

A high-level Party Unity Dialogue Committee was also formed to explore possibilities of unity with ideologically aligned parties.

Prachanda mentioned that the committee would soon initiate efforts for unification talks.

The Central Committee meeting endorsed the political proposal titled “Commitment to Party Transformation and Reorganization: Today’s Historical Necessity,” presented by Chair Prachanda.

The proposal was approved with modifications after incorporating suggestions from 118 party officials and members.
