Over 1,000 people affected by floods and inundation in Saptari



RAJBIRAJ: Continuous rainfall has triggered severe flooding across Saptari district, affecting more than 1,100 people and inundating over 500 houses.

Floodwaters from the Triyuga, Khando, Koshi, and Jita rivers have submerged settlements along riverbanks, severely disrupting daily life. The Triyuga River overflowed into several wards of Saptakoshi Municipality, inundating more than 200 houses. Ward No. 6, Bochahi village, has been completely submerged.

According to Chief District Officer Tuwaraj Pokharel, six houses in the area have collapsed, and affected families have been relocated to the National Basic School in Bochahi for safety.

District Police Office records show that floods have impacted 256 additional families across nine other locations in the district.

In Dakneshwari Municipality Ward No. 9, floodwaters entered 15 houses, while in Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality–12, 40 houses were affected. One house collapsed in Rajgadh Rural Municipality–6, and the Khando River overflowed into Tilathi Koiladi–1, inundating the entire settlement, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Dambar Bahadur Puri.

Similarly, 15 houses in Tilathi Koiladi–4 and 11 in Hanumannagar Kankalini–14 were submerged. A rescue team led by Superintendent of Police Gautam KC rescued 38 people stranded in floodwaters from various areas, including 12 from Saptakoshi Municipality–6, eight from Hanumannagar Kankalini–12, seven from Rajgadh–6, and 11 from Tilathi Koiladi–4.
