Monsoon disaster: Death toll reaches 60, including 15 minors



KATHMANDU: The death toll from floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains last Friday and Saturday has climbed to 60. Police have confirmed 60 fatalities: 19 men, 26 women, and 15 minors.

Ilam has suffered the greatest number of casualties, with 37 deaths attributed to landslides and flooding. Other districts affected include: Panchthar (8), Udayapur (3), Khotang (2), Sunsari (1), Rautahat (3), Morang (1), Mahottari (1), Sindhupalchowk (1), Sindhuli (1), and Kavre (2).

Continuous rainfall also caused injuries in Dhankuta and Bara, while one person in Khotang was injured in flooding. So far, 18 people have been rescued by helicopter.
