Monsoon disaster: 48 dead, 6 missing, 28 injured



KATHMANDU: The death toll from the recent monsoon-related disasters has risen to 48, according to the latest data released this evening by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).

NDRRMA spokesperson Shanti Mahat confirmed that 39 of the deaths were caused by landslides—37 in Ilam, and one each in Panchthar and Kavre.

Floods claimed six lives, with one fatality reported in each of the following districts: Panchthar, Khotang, Morang, Sunsari, Udayapur, and Rautahat. Additionally, two people died due to lightning strikes, and one person in Udayapur lost their life due to continuous rainfall.

Six individuals remain missing—four in Rasuwa and one in Ilam due to flooding, and another in Ilam following a landslide.

A total of 28 people have been injured in these disasters. Among them, 10 were injured in landslides in Ilam, two in Panchthar, two in Lalitpur, three in Bhojpur, three in Khotang, and one each in Udayapur, Makawanpur, Taplejung, Dhankuta, and Bara.

Continuous rainfall also caused injuries in Dhankuta and Bara, while one person in Khotang was injured in flooding. So far, 18 people have been rescued by helicopter.
