Boy dies after being swept away by river in Rautahat, two girls missing



CHANDRAPUR: A 10-year-old boy drowned after being swept away by the Bakaiya River in Rautahat on Monday afternoon.

According to District Police Office spokesperson DSP Raju Karki, the victim has been identified as Arwaz Miya, son of Gonwar Miya of Balwa Gothtol, Rajpur Municipality–8.

The boy had gone to bathe in the river around 2 p.m. when he was swept away. Following information from locals, a police team led by SI Rajendra Giri of Rajpur Area Police Office and Inspector Purna Bahadur Tamang of Armed Police Force Fatua Base recovered him after 40 minutes. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at Rajpur Primary Health Center.

Meanwhile, two girls went missing while bathing in a stream at Karkach Tol, Dewahi Gonahi Municipality–6 the same afternoon. The missing girls have been identified as 12-year-old Aarti Kumari, daughter of Ramdayal Ram, and 11-year-old Antima Kumari, daughter of Shivdhari Ram.

Police said the girls were bathing in a field stream when they disappeared, and search operations are underway.
