KATHMANDU: Life in the Kathmandu Valley is gradually returning to normalcy after continuous heavy rainfall and adverse weather disrupted daily activities over the past few days.
With the rain easing on Sunday, roads, transportation, businesses, and public routines in the valley have started to function normally. Persistent showers had previously caused waterlogging on streets, increased traffic congestion, and made pedestrian movement difficult.
According to SSP Naresh Raj Subedi, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police, all major roads, including entry and exit points such as Nagdhunga, Arniko Highway, and Tokha road sections, are now operational. Some roads that were temporarily blocked by landslides are also reopening.
Markets in Kathmandu are seeing increased foot traffic as residents return to shopping for daily necessities. Business owners in areas like Asan, Indra Chowk, New Road, Old Baneshwor, and Gongabu reported a visible rise in customer presence. Sarita Thapa, a shop owner in Old Baneshwor, said, “Until Saturday, walking on streets was difficult due to waterlogging. Today, with the rain stopped and the sun out, life feels much easier.”
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has noted that the monsoon system remains active over the country. While most areas of Koshi, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces will experience partly cloudy weather tonight, some hilly and Terai regions in these provinces may see moderate rain with thunderstorms.
Authorities continue to monitor weather conditions to ensure public safety as the monsoon gradually weakens across the country.
