Son kills mother in Dhading, police investigation underway

DHADING: A man has allegedly killed his mother in Tripurasundari Rural Municipality-5, Thapakateri, Dhading.

According to police, 30-year-old Yam Bahadur Kandel (also known as Jire) attacked his 54-year-old mother, Ram Maya, with a sharp weapon around 8:30 pm on Sunday while she was preparing dinner.

District Police Office Dhading’s SP Bhesh Raj Rijal said Kandel was arrested from the scene along with the weapon. He confirmed that further investigation is ongoing and legal proceedings are being initiated against him.

The body, which had sustained severe injuries, was sent to Dhading District Hospital for postmortem after completing necessary documentation. The incident has left the entire village in mourning.

Police sources revealed that Yam Bahadur had previously drawn attention during the Gen Z protests due to his aggressive behavior. He was reportedly suffering from mental health issues since then and was scheduled to be taken to Kathmandu for treatment on Monday, but he killed his mother a day earlier.
