Prachanda criticizes NC-UML govt, calls it product of threats and brokers

POKHARA: Maoist Centre chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal has criticized the coalition government of Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, saying it was formed under the influence of brokers and threats rather than the parties’ own wisdom.

Speaking at a training program on “The Role of Nepali Industrialists and Entrepreneurs in a Socialist-Oriented Economy” organized by the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) in Pokhara, Prachanda said the government that came into power yesterday out of fear continues to survive today for the same reason.

“Congress-UML did not form this government on their own intelligence; it was the result of pressure and threats from brokers,” he said. “Honest members within Congress and UML should not remain part of such a government.”

The former prime minister also criticized the pro-broker capitalist tendencies of the government. “Crony capitalism and broker capitalism are currently being represented by Congress and UML,” he said, adding, “We are the alternative power to that system.”

Claiming that the Maoist movement has always sided with the middle class, Prachanda said, “We represent the middle class. Debt relief, cooperative reform, and the upliftment of the lower strata remain our priorities.” He also emphasized that industrialists and entrepreneurs have an essential role to play in advancing the country toward socialism.

Prachanda further noted that unity and cooperation between Maoist factions and honest communists has been increasing recently.

“Public support is growing beyond expectations. We are winning in places no one anticipated,” he said. “People have started realizing that the Maoist Centre is the force that works for the people.”
