UML statute convention: group discussions scheduled for today

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML’s second national statute convention continues today with group discussions. The convention, which opened on Friday, will focus on detailed deliberations on reports presented earlier.

According to the party, reports from the Election Commission, Accounts Commission, and Disciplinary Commission will be presented before group discussions begin. On the opening day, reports by Party Chair KP Sharma Oli (political), Vice-Chair Bishnu Paudel (statute amendment), General Secretary Shankar Pokharel (organizational), and Advisory Council Chair Amrit Kumar Bohara had been tabled.

Ten groups have been formed to review these documents in detail throughout the day. On Sunday, each group will present its conclusions, after which report presenters will provide clarifications. The convention will then formally conclude with an address by Chair Oli.

Representatives from Koshi, Sudurpaschim, Madhes, Karnali, Bagmati, Lumbini, and Gandaki provinces are holding separate group discussions. Additional groups include Kathmandu Valley delegates, affiliated organizations, contact coordination committees, diaspora representatives, and central committee members.

Meanwhile, a 32-page dissenting note submitted by Standing Committee member Karn Bahadur Thapa is also expected to be discussed. His note reportedly raises questions regarding the membership of former Vice-Chair and former President Bidya Devi Bhandari.

A total of 2,341 participants, 2,026 delegates from across the country and 315 organizers, are attending the convention.
