Flood risk: ‘Yellow alert’ issued in 25 districts



KATHMANDU: The Flood Forecasting Division under the Department of Water and Meteorology has issued a yellow alert for 25 districts, urging preparedness and vigilance.

According to the bulletin released by the Division, the water levels of major rivers such as the Koshi, Mahakali, Kamala, Bagmati, East Rapti, West Rapti, Babai, and Kankai are currently below the alert level as of this morning.

However, water levels are rising at several gauging stations within the Narayani and Karnali river basins.

From a district-level assessment, the flow of small rivers in Kanchanpur, Kailali, Dadeldhura, Doti, Surkhet, Salyan, Rolpa, Pyuthan, Jajarkot, Dailekh, and surrounding areas is expected to increase significantly today. The Division has warned of a moderate risk of flash floods in these regions.

Similarly, increased water flow and moderate flood risk have also been forecasted for small rivers in Sindhupalchowk, Kavrepalanchowk, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Makawanpur, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, Lamjung, Kaski, Syangja, Baglung, Parbat, and Palpa and surrounding districts. People living near riverbanks have been advised to exercise caution.
