Blocked Nala-Bhaktapur road section reopened using hume pipes

KAVREPALCHOWK: Traffic has resumed on the previously blocked Nala-Bhaktapur road section from this morning after a temporary fix was implemented.

The bridge at the border of Banepa Municipality Wards 4 and 1 in Kavre collapsed on Friday night, disrupting vehicular movement.

The District Traffic Police Office, Banepa, informed that traffic has been restored after six large Hume pipes were placed to temporarily rebuild the collapsed section.

According to Chief Police Inspector Sunil Dhanju, the repair work was carried out overnight in coordination with Banepa Municipality and the Department of Roads.

The road section, which falls under the Nala–Chyamasing stretch in Bhaktapur, serves as an important alternative route to eastern Kathmandu.

The bridge, constructed in 2037 BS (1980 AD), reportedly collapsed after a heavy freight vehicle passed over it, completely halting traffic on the route.

With expansion work currently underway on the Araniko Highway—from Suryabinayak, Bhaktapur to Dhulikhel, Kavrepalanchowk—many vehicles have been using the Nala-Chyamasing road as a detour for the past two years.
