Composite technology wall built to prevent Rahughat river erosion

MYAGDI: An embankment has been constructed to protect the roads and motorable bridges of the Kaligandaki Corridor in Beni Municipality-9 (Galeshwor) and Raghuganga Rural Municipality-3 (Rahughat), Myagdi, from the erosion risk posed by the Rahughat River.

The Beni–Jomsom–Korla Road Project under the national pride Kaligandaki Corridor has built a composite technology wall along the riverbank at a cost of Rs. 33.986 million.

The wall aims to safeguard roads, bridges, and nearby settlements. According to Chakra KC, Ward Chair of Beni-9, the embankment has significantly reduced the risk of flooding and erosion in the Galeshwor and Rahughat areas.

Previously, nearly 50 households, 100 meters of road, and a motorable bridge were under serious threat due to riverbank erosion.

The project office reported that a 50-meter ‘palm wall’ has been constructed on the Rahughat River side near Rahughat settlement, while an 85-meter ‘composite wall’ has been built on the Galeshwor side.

Construction began last Falgun and was completed on schedule. To control potential flooding, the project includes a four-meter-wide and three-meter-high concrete wall, topped with six layers of gabion walls.

The contract, valued at Rs. 47.237 million, was awarded to Mahaprabhu–BRT Sai JV and signed on Falgun 13. Shiva GC, a representative of the construction company, said that construction work was carried out even at night to complete the embankment before river water levels rose.

Beni–Jomsom–Korla Road Project Engineer Bishnu Chapagain added that another embankment has been built in Galeshwor along the Beni–Galeshwor road to further protect the roadway from river erosion.
