PM Oli to visit Humla for bridge inauguration

HUMLA: Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli is visiting Humla today to inaugurate a key bridge under the Karnali Corridor.

According to his secretariat, Prime Minister Oli will inaugurate the newly constructed Bailey bridge over the Chwakhola River in Kharpunath Rural Municipality-5. The bridge is part of the strategic Karnali Corridor project.

Preparations in Humla have been underway for several days in anticipation of the Prime Minister’s visit. Construction of the bridge was recently completed at a rapid pace.

Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Devendra Dahal is also scheduled to accompany Prime Minister Oli during the visit.

With the inauguration of this bridge, Humla’s district headquarters, Simikot, will be formally linked to the national road network for the first time. Humla is the only district in Nepal that has remained disconnected from the national road system.

Although road construction began 26 years ago, formal connectivity had not yet been achieved.

The inauguration marks a major milestone, ending a decades-long wait for road access for the people of Humla.
