Two arrested for defrauding over Rs 4.2 million by promising foreign jobs



KATHMANDU: Police have arrested two individuals on charges of defrauding people of more than Rs 4.2 million by falsely promising to send them abroad for employment.

The arrested are Pramila Baruwal, 40, of Manthali Municipality-3, Ramechhap, currently residing in Dakshinkali Municipality-1, and Mohan Pokharel, 34, of Mathagadi Rural Municipality-4, Palpa, currently living in Gongabu, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-26, according to Superintendent of Police Kaji Kumar Acharya, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office.

“They were arrested based on complaints from victims who had been misled for a long time with false promises of foreign employment. After taking money, they cut off contact,” said Acharya.

Baruwal reportedly took Rs 3.235 million from seven individuals, claiming she would send them to the United Kingdom, while Pokharel took Rs 1 million from one person with the promise of employment in Poland.

Both suspects have been handed over to the Department of Foreign Employment, Tahachal, for further investigation and legal proceedings, the police said.
