‘One house, one tap’ initiative brings water access to Myagdi’s Dadagaun

MYAGDI: A total of 225 households in Malika Rural Municipality-3 in Myagdi have benefited from the Dadagaun Bokre Drinking Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Project, constructed at a cost of Rs 11 million.

The project was funded through a grant of Rs 2,485,596 from Malika Rural Municipality, Rs 561,366 from Nepal Water for Health (NEWA), and Rs 2,913,124 contributed by local consumers.

According to Ward Chairman Moti Prasad Budha, the initiative has provided 225 household taps, in addition to four taps in schools and one private tap at the local health unit.

The project has directly benefited 2,019 people from the localities of Dadagaun, Kiteni, Aul, Saragdi, and Syagalung. Previously dependent on shared public taps, residents now enjoy improved convenience and hygiene.

“With taps in our homes, we save time, avoid queues, and household chores have become much easier,” said local residents.

Each household contributed 60 days of labor toward the construction of the project. Water meters have been installed to promote responsible water usage, and concrete drying racks were built to maintain cleanliness around the taps.

According to Surendra Chand, a technician with NEWA, the project sources water from three springs in Bokre, distributing it through 11 reserve tanks. The main and branch pipelines of the project span a total length of 21,468 meters.
