Five ordinances approved by National Assembly
The National Assembly of Nepal has approved five ordinances on Wednesday.
The ordinances were passed with support from the Upendra Yadav-led Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal, which holds three seats in the Assembly. The approval was granted by a majority vote.
Among the approved ordinances are key measures aimed at promoting good governance and improving public service delivery.
Buddha Air flight lands safely in Kathmandu despite missing nose wheel
A Buddha Air flight traveling from Janakpur to Kathmandu landed safely at Tribhuvan International Airport despite missing one of its front wheels.
The aircraft, bearing the call sign 9NANH, took off from Janakpur at 4:39 pm on Thursday and landed at 5:06 PM. It was only after landing that authorities discovered the absence of one of the nose landing gear tires, which was later found on the runway in Janakpur.
Opposition heats up parliament over three key issues, including the Kulman case
The main opposition, Maoist Center, along with other parties, strongly criticized the government in Wednesday’s parliamentary session, raising concerns over three major issues.
The most contentious among them was the alleged attempt to remove Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Managing Director Kulman Ghising by giving him a zero mark in his performance evaluation.
During the emergency and zero-hour session, opposition lawmakers accused the government of targeting Ghising despite his significant contributions to Nepal’s energy sector.
Govt seeks clarification from Kulman Ghising again
The government has once again decided to seek an explanation from Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Managing Director Kulman Ghising regarding his tenure and performance.
During a Cabinet meeting held in Baluwatar on Wednesday evening, ministers resolved to issue a three-day deadline for Ghising to submit his clarification.
This comes after an earlier inquiry by the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, which had formally questioned why Ghising should not be removed from his position.
Mayor Balen refuses to reinstate Chief Administrative Officer Saroj Guragain
Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Mayor Balen Shah has formally refused to allow Chief Administrative Officer Saroj Guragain to resume work, escalating tensions between the metropolis and the federal government.
In response to a directive from the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, which instructed KMC to create a working environment for Guragain, Shah sent a letter on Thursday, asserting that allowing Guragain to return would negatively impact ongoing projects and lead to legal complications.
PM Oli challenges former King Gyanendra to contest elections
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has firmly ruled out any possibility of Nepal returning to a monarchy, stating that the country will not revert to a system where some are born as kings while others remain commoners.
Speaking at the inauguration of Nepal’s largest paper industry in Mahottari on Thursday, Oli addressed the recent surge in royalist activities and challenged former King Gyanendra Shah to contest the 2027 elections.
Amresh Kumar Singh demands Health Minister’s resignation over appointment dispute
Independent Member of Parliament Amresh Kumar Singh has called for the immediate resignation of Health Minister Pradeep Paudel, alleging biased decision-making in the recent appointment of the Health Secretary.
Singh criticized the minister for appointing Dr. Bikash Devkota as the Secretary of the Ministry of Health, bypassing Sangita Kaushal Mishra, who was ranked first for the position.
He accused the government of political favoritism and discrimination, particularly against Madhesi officials.
Prachanda in Balen’s ancestral home: ‘We must build nation together’
CPN-Maoist Center Chair and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ visited the ancestral home of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah on Thursday morning.
Leading a delegation of Maoist leaders, Dahal reached Ekdara Rural Municipality, Mahottari, where Shah’s ancestral house is located.
The visit was part of the Maoist Center’s Tarai Madhes Awareness Campaign, which aims to strengthen its political outreach in the region.
Dr. Bikas Devkota appointed as Health Secretary
The government has promoted Dr. Bikas Devkota as the Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Population.
A Council of Ministers meeting held on March 5 made the decision to elevate Dr. Devkota to the top administrative post in the ministry.
Ministry spokesperson Dr. Prakash Budhathoki confirmed that Dr. Devkota will assume office immediately.
Narayan Man Bijukchhe unanimously re-elected as Nepal Workers’ and Peasants’ Party chair
Narayan Man Bijukchhe was unanimously re-elected as the chair of the Nepal Workers’ and Peasants’ Party during the party’s eighth general convention, which concluded on Tuesday.
Bijukchhe, who has led the party since its formal establishment on January 23, 1975, continues to hold the position unopposed at the age of 85.
The convention, which began on February 28, also unanimously elected Prem Suwal as the party’s secretary and Mohan Prasad Prajapati as treasurer.
Badri Prasad Pandey honored with ‘Tourism Minister of the Year’ award in Berlin
Nepal’s Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, has been honored with the ‘Tourism Minister of the Year’ award for the Himalayan region at an event in Berlin, Germany.
The award was presented during the ‘World Tourism and Aviation Summit-2025’, organized by the Pacific Area Travel Writers Association (PATWA) in Berlin.
This recognition is part of the ITB Berlin annual awards, which have been presented since 1999 to tourism ministers who have made significant contributions to the sector.
Home Ministry transfers seven joint secretaries, appoints new CDOs
The Ministry of Home Affairs has transferred seven joint secretaries, appointing them as Chief District Officers (CDOs) in districts where the position was vacant.
According to the transfer list made public today, Dharmaraj Joshi has been appointed as the CDO of Banke, while Divyaraj Pokharel has been transferred to Sankhuwasabha.
Similarly, Narahari Ghimire will assume the role in Khotang, Binod Khadka in Rautahat, Bijayraj Subedi in Okhaldhunga, and Shashidhar Ghimire in Nuwakot.
Gold prices up by Rs 300 per tola
The price of gold has increased in the Nepali market today, with a rise of Rs 300 per tola, according to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers Association.
As per the latest updates, gold is now being traded at Rs 170,900 per tola, up from Rs 170,400 per tola on Wednesday.
Similarly, the price of silver has also seen an increase, climbing by Rs 35 per tola.
Fire in Palpa destroys four community forests, efforts to control blaze ongoing
A massive wildfire that broke out at Sansarkot hill, near Ribdikot Rural Municipality-1 and 2, continues to rage, causing extensive damage to community forests in the area.
According to the District Police Office, efforts to control the fire have been severely hindered by dense fog and strong winds, allowing the flames to spread rapidly.
The Division Forest Office reported that the fire has already ravaged 170 hectares of land, affecting Lek Community Forest, Bharekhola Community Forest, Madhuban Community Forest, and Brindavan Community Forest in Deurali.

Ward Chair Birendra Prajapati stated that the new system has helped streamline movement and made local life easier.
