KATHMANDU: Narayan Man Bijukchhe was unanimously re-elected as the chair of the Nepal Workers’ and Peasants’ Party during the party’s eighth general convention, which concluded on Tuesday.
Bijukchhe, who has led the party since its formal establishment on January 23, 1975, continues to hold the position unopposed at the age of 85.
The convention, which began on February 28, also unanimously elected Prem Suwal as the party’s secretary and Mohan Prasad Prajapati as treasurer.
Additionally, several leaders, including Sunil Prajapati, Nanda Bahadur Shahi, and Dilli Prasad Kafle, have been chosen as central members, while Manju Chaudhary, Binod BK, Tulsi Khadka, and Prakash Gurung were elected as alternate central members.
Bijukchhe had stepped away from parliamentary politics in the 2017 general election, with the party nominating Prem Suwal in Bhaktapur Constituency No. 1, a seat he successfully won.
