KATHMANDU: The Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal parliamentary party (PP), led by Upendra Yadav, is holding a meeting today at the party’s PP office in Singha Durbar at 11 am.
According to JSP Vice-chairman Rajkishore Yadav, the meeting will decide whether to support or oppose the ordinance brought forward by the government.
To examine the ordinance, JSP Nepal formed a task force under the leadership of Yadav, who is also the Chairman of the Tourism and International Relations Committee.
The task force held discussions with experts on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The report prepared by the task force is now ready to be presented at today’s meeting, after which it will be made public.
Although the ordinance is expected to pass easily in the House of Representatives, JSP Nepal’s support, particularly in the National Assembly, is crucial.
To pass the ordinance in the 59-member National Assembly, 30 votes are required.
Currently, 28 members, including 16 from the Nepali Congress, 10 from the CPN-UML, one nominated member, and one from the Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LSP), are in favor.
On the other hand, 26 lawmakers, including 17 from the Maoist Center, 8 from the Unified Socialist Party, and 1 from the Rastriya Janamorcha (RJM), are opposed.
JSP Nepal, with 3 members, holds the deciding vote. National Assembly nominee Bamdev Gautam has yet to make a statement on this matter.
