‘Tour de Thakurdwara’ cycling event kicks off today

NEPALGUNJ: Cycling event, ‘Tour de Thakurdwara’, organized to promote tourism in the Banke and Bardiya districts is taking place today.

The event will begin in Nepalgunj, with 196 participants expected, including cyclists from Jhapa, Dharan, Butwal, Bhairahawa, Dang, Chitwan, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Palpa, Biratnagar, several Indian cities, as well as from Japan and Korea.

This event is part of the Nepalgunj Cycling Festival, named ‘Tour de Thakurdwara.’

Pradip Sapkota, President of the Nepalgunj Cycling Club and organizer of the event, shared that all necessary arrangements for food and accommodation for the participants have been made.

He also emphasized that the tour will help highlight the many tourism destinations in both Banke and Bardiya districts.

This marks the seventh edition of the Nepalgunj Cycling Festival, which will take place from February 6 to 8.

Sapkota also noted that while there were plans to organize the ‘Tour de Banke National Park’ to further promote tourism in the region, the event was not feasible due to the lack of accommodations for about 300 participants in the Park area.

He called for efforts to develop plans and activities that link the religious circuit in Nepalgunj, which includes shrines such as Baba Bararfani, Santaneshwar Temple, Govardhan Dham, the Sikta Barrage, Banke National Park, and the Gabhar Valley.
